Athens, Alabama girl does it again! 13 year old Shelby Wages caught a huge 47 lb. catfish during Spring Break weekend in Logan Martin Lake.
Three years ago when she was just 10 years old she caught a 32 pound catfish in the same lake while on Spring Break and WHNT-19 News in Huntsville covered the story.
Shelby said she caught the fish around 6:30 Sunday morning from a dock. She said she left the dock and when she returned, it took off. She immediately grabbed the rod to set the hook. The fish didn't get too far, but it still took Shelby a while to get the fish in. Shelby said the fish put up a huge fight and her father had to help her get it out of the water. Shelby is also a honor roll student at Athens Middle School.
Her mother Jennifer White and grandmother Diane White Gearhart of Athens couldn't be more proud of her. It's a good thing she got a picture, otherwise people might not believe this fish tale! And if you're wondering how Shelby is holding up that big fish in the picture, she's not! Shelby said the fish was hanging from the tree when this picture was taken.
